The hunt is not physically demanding, requiring walking about 6 miles daily. Trophy size ranges from 35 to 43 inches, 37 inches average. Hunters capable of walking longer distances tend to get better trophies.  The daytime temperature hovers around 70F (20C) in August. Long rains with strong winds are not uncommon. There could be occasional nighttime snowfalls towards the end of the season, but the snow does not stay on the ground for more than a few hours. Hunters can take a brown bear near the base camp, or they can take a half-day walk from the spike camp if time allows.
